Course Summary

BINDT Vibration Analysis Level 1 is an introductory level into vibration analysis and will enable the candidate to establish competency in the fundamental key skills and understanding of monitoring plant and process equipment.

The course is ideal for plant personnel such as reliability engineers, technicians, maintenance supervisors, rotating machinery engineers, predictive maintenance coordinators and any personnel that works in industries where rotating and reciprocating machinery is employed.

This course is based on the ISO 18436-2 certification program vibration analyst category 1 syllabus and is designed to prepare staff for the BINDT PCN VA Cat 1 Certification Exam. The course is accredited by BINDT PCN to CM GEN App D.

Approved Training Organisation (ATO)

As an Approved Training Organisation (ATO), registered by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), our vibration and lubrications courses are based on a third party condition monitoring training certification scheme which is aligned with ISO 18436 standards.

BINDT is an accredited certifying body in accordance with ISO/IEC 17024 offering personnel certification against criteria set out in international and European standards through the Personal Certification in Non-Destructive Testing (PCN) Certification Scheme.

One of the many benefits of achieving PCN certification is that successful candidates will gain a recognised qualification, which enhances career prospects and provides a certificate of competence.

Course Assesment

The candidate will undergo a series of formative assessments throughout the duration of the course to ensure learning has taken place. Towards the end of the course there are two internal summative assessments in the form of a practical and written exam. Candidates will be expected to achieve a 70% overall score in order to pass the course.

The BINDT certification exam can be taken immediately after successful completion of the course, but the certification can only be awarded after the attendee has logged 6 months’ relevant vibration analysis experience.

  • Basic principles of vibration and recognise the different units of measurement.
  • Collect reliable data ensuring appropriate standards of repeatability.
  • Be able to identify errors in collected data.
  • Retrieve pre-defined measurement settings for use with VA equipment and transfer data from an analysis system to a computer-based system.
  • Compare overall or single-value vibration measurements against pre-established alert settings.
  • Identify deviations from the norm for single-value vibration values and trends.
  • Report on visual observations of equipment condition.

Learning Outcomes

Candidates who complete the Vibration Analysis Category 1 course will have have evidence of training to VA1 in accordance with ISO 18436-2 and BINDT PCN CM Gen App D.

Candidates will get a good understanding about the basic range of VA techniques and single channel instrumentation, the ability to recognise the vibration characteristics produced by basic machine faults, and gain awareness of key International Standards covering vibration condition monitoring.
